UFC 116: Lesnar Defeats Carwin

UFC 116:  Lesnar VS Carwin was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on 3rd July 2010 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States. Shane Carwin, who won the interim heavyweight championship by defeating Frank Mir at UFC 111, faced current heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar who retained his heavyweight belt via submission (choke) at 2:19 of Round 2 in the UFC 116 main event which was one of the most anticipated fights in UFC history.
His triumph was a come-from-behind victory as he almost lost to Carwin in Round 1 as the UFC interim titleholder tried to go for a win as he pounded on Lesnar’s head. The Octagon turned bloody from Lesnar’s bleeding face but the UFC champ survived even if he suffered an uppercut and received a series of blows from Carwin.
Lesnar, who was sidelined by the digestive disease diverticulitis, proved that he still has it by bouncing back in full force in the second round, putting Carwin down to the mat. He now has 5 wins and 1 loss while the formerly undefeated Carwin now has 12 wins and 1 defeat. UFC 116: Lesnar vs Carwin was held before a sold-out crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Gene Simmons, Holly Madison, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Evander Hollyfield and US Sen. Harry Reid were among the who's who in attendance.
